Dear Friends,
Following some changes to our Sunday morning services and the launch of a new website recently, the PCC along with other members of the congregation met to discuss the next step in the life of our church in line with the Diocesan vision of Growing Disciples, Wider, Younger, Deeper.
During our time together we looked at three 3 questions:
- Why does the church exist?
- Who and what are we to be as members of the church?
- What are we to do as a church?
Following a time of prayer and discussion we then looked at what the Bible has to say in answer to these questions, noting that:
The church exists to bring glory to God as Christians meet together for worship.
It’s a family whose members are called to love, serve, and encourage each other.
And its task is to make new disciples as it shares the good news of Jesus Christ.
The outcome of that meeting was a brief vision statement focussing on who God wants us to be, and what God wants us to do as members of his church in Bingham.
As a result the PCC came up with the following statement that will be at the centre of all that we do as we continue to learn what it means to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, tell people the good news of Jesus Christ his Son, and serve and encourage each other as members of God’s family:
A Growing Community of All Ages, Loving God, Sharing Christ, Serving One Another
Our Vision
Loving God
Our commitment is to love God by putting him at the centre of everything we do. Jesus says: “The first commandment is this: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.” (Matthew 22v37).
Sharing Christ
Our commitment is to share the good news of Jesus Christ who says: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.” (Matthew 28v19).
Serving One Another
Our commitment as members of God’s family is to love, serve, and encourage each other. Jesus says: You shall love your neighbour as yourself. (Mark 12v31).
Thanks
Jon
